I Am Rural Design Manifesto
So often design is seen as something created in the city, with large offices and the best technology feeding into our world of
over-consumerism and over-saturation. There is such drive in this world to create something new, something original but how can
one do that when ‘there’s nothing left to create?’
I am passionate about rural Australia and the outback landscape but I am also a designer. That sentence should say I am passionate
about rural Australia and the outback landscape AND I am also a designer. They are two worlds that are misinterpreted as being miles apart yet there is an agricultural sector waiting for design.
This manifesto challenges the preconceptions of what design is, what it can be and where it can be situated. It draws attention to
what rural design is and what it stands for.
